Sardis had a reputation for being vibrant, but Christ exposed its true state: lifelessness. Just as a patient in intensive care is either on the path to recovery or near death, this church was spiritually on the edge, and Christ urgently called it to awaken.
Dr. Damisah challenges believers to examine themselves in the light of God’s Word, reminding us that spiritual vitality isn’t about activities or appearances. Motives are key, and without a sincere heart for God, even dedicated service is empty. Sardis’s danger came from complacency and drifting away from foundational values. Dr. Damisah warns that gradual compromises, the allure of popularity, and attachment to material things can easily draw believers away from true faith.
Christ’s call to Sardis and to us is one of love: to hold fast to our initial passion and recommit ourselves. His promises to the faithful are powerfulclothed in white raiment, names secure in the Book of Life, and a confession before the Father. By embracing discipline, rejecting spiritual laziness, and immersing ourselves in the Word, we can be counted among those who overcome.
